Hello,
Thank you for visiting the offic website for the African Parish House Quilters founded in May 1997 by Barbara Holt Payne (deceased) and Deborah E. Pinckney under the expert tutelage of Wrylene Mays (deceased). The group was founded to help preserve and promote the art of quilting and culture primarily in the local African American community through classes, demonstrations, exhibits and community service.
The group was originally started as a community outreach of the Hebron Baptist Church but is now a division of the African Parish House Urban Ministries, a 501(c)3 not for profit organziation.
This group usually meets twice each month on the first and third Saturdays of the month at the African Parish House, 189 N. 20th Street, Columbus, OH 43203 from 1-4 pm. All are welcome as we focus on unity through our Christian faith and our love of quilting.
We give back to the community through two community service projects each year: 1) Project Snuggle conducted in March, National Craft Month, as we make baby quilts for at-risk newborns in the community; and 2) Community Quilting Day on the last Saturday in October, which coincides with Make A Difference Day. Our partner in this project, since its beginning has been the Columbus Metropolitan Library, Martin Luther King, Jr. Branch.
